breaking down ashtanga primary series

saturday 31st AUGUST
12:00-14:30
SUNDERLAND STUDIO

Jessica Rutherford

£15pp

Take your Ashtanga practice to the next level, deepen your understanding of the sequence, sweat, move, breathe and - most importantly - have fun! During this workshop we will practice the full Ashtanga Primary Series that we have become familiar with from our regular practice, but we will break it down to put the spotlight on some of those trickier poses, allowing them to become more accessible to us in future practice. On this occasion, the spotlight will be placed on: bhujapidasana, kurmasana & supta kurmasana. We will have the opportunity to work on some stretches and exercises to open certain areas of the body, allowing for a greater range of movement and a better understanding of what is required of the body to successfully and safely access these poses. Whilst yoga is very much about working within your own ability, you may be surprised how far you get with the right stretches and some sneaky hints and tips!

Some familiarity with the Ashtanga sequence is required (previous attendance of an ashtanga class) This workshop is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant or has an injury that prevents them from attending regular classes.

There will be some traditional Indian Chai Tea and healthy snacks to share at the end for those who don’t have to rush off.

Yoga can enhance flexibility, balance, calm, optimism and resilience. Yoga practitioners learn what it means to be bendy in life, as well as on the mat. In the bend of a pose, we discover the stability and balance we need for our yoga practice. In the bend of emotion, we discover the stability and balance we need for life.

This workshop will lead you through a strength and balance focused sequence where we learn to become more comfortable in our own skin and more confident in dealing with what life throws at us.
